Careers in social work and care: Frequently Asked Questions  

We have care and support roles available in the extra care schemes, residential homes and our community services. We also have domestic and catering roles within our residential settings.

We have a variety of contracts available. Whether you want to work full time, part time or relief we will work with you to match your needs to ours.

You will receive an induction, training and have regular 1-1 supervisions with your supervisor.

The Council has a comprehensive training programme – courses, e-learning, 1-1 training. There are opportunities for you to undertake further qualifications relevant to your role such as QCF diploma qualifications.

We want people to work a variety of different hours, for example we would have shifts available for people who can only work evenings and weekends, or only mornings. We will discuss your availability and the hours you can work to maintain your work life balance when we interview you. From this discussion, we will agree what working hours suit you and the service.

We offer a competitive pension scheme through the Clwyd Pension Fund. All employees who work for a period of more than 3 months are automatically admitted to this pension scheme.

If you are employed by the Council you will be reimbursed your registration fees on proof of payment.

The interview process can vary depending on job role. We currently run regular recruitment workshops where candidates are provided with information about working within social care following which, there are some group activities as well as individual interviews. The aim of the workshop is for you to find out what we can offer you as well as an opportunity for us to meet you and see what skills you can offer us. For all jobs in care we want people with the right values, e.g. caring, compassionate and empathetic. Some of our roles require skills and qualifications which can be found on the job individual job description and person specification.

Not all roles will need you to drive, such as roles in residential or extra care but you will need to have the means to get to work.

Roles working in the community, you will be required to drive to your calls.

You will need a car if you are working as a care and support worker in the community as you will be providing support in the citizens own home.

The Council do provide pool cars in some areas of Denbighshire.

We do pay mileage for people using their own cars.

Yes you will be provided with uniforms, mobile phone and any other equipment needed for your role.

Our staff are paid on the 18th of each month. Contracted staff are paid for the whole month on this date and for overtime and supply, supply staff are paid for hours worked in the previous month.
