Introduction to Ruthun 

Ruthin is the County Town of Denbighshire. Known for its 13th Century Castle, Ruthin also has an old Gaol which is now a museum and a range of other attractions, including gardens and a craft centre.

The estimated resident population for the area is approximately 5,000 people.

The town centre is filled with independent businesses and is one of the most prosperous towns in the County.

The following are regeneration projects that have been completed in Ruthin since 2018.

Llys Awelon Phase 2

Project overview: The development of an additional 35 units of extra care housing on the site that previously held Awelon Residential Care Home and Canolfan Awelon.

Funding: £13m Social Housing Grant and Housing with Care Grant


Glasdir – Ysgol Penbarras / Rhos Street School, Ruthin

Project overview: The project completed in April 2018 provided new and expanded school buildings for Ysgol Penbarras and Rhos Street School, at the Glasdir area of Ruthin.

Ysgol Carreg Emlyn, Clocaenog

Project overview: The project completed in May 2019 provided a new school building for Ysgol Carreg Emlyn, to replace the old inadequate buildings at Clocaenog and Cyffylliog.

Ysgol Llanfair, Llanfair

Project overview: The project completed in February 2020 provided a new school building for Ysgol Llanfair, to replace the building and mobile units at the old site.
