Introduction to Rhyl

Rhyl is a seaside resort on the North-East coast of Wales and lies to the east of the river Clwyd.

The majority of the town centre is in a designated Conservation Area, due to it being an area of special architectural or historic interest.

The estimated resident population for the area was approximately 26,000.

Rhyl is the largest town centre in Denbighshire, both in terms of size and number of retail units.

The town has many ongoing regeneration projects, including various works along the promenade.

Queen’s Buildings

Project overview: Purchase of buildings to allow for Phase 1 Market Hall and Events Space.

Funding: £3,000,000 - Welsh Government and Denbighshire County Council.


Botanical Gardens Depot, Phase 1

Project overview: New build office and welfare accommodation.

Funding: £1,200,000 - Denbighshire County Council.


Hafan Deg

Project overview: Redevelopment of Day Centre.

Funding: £100,000 - Discretionary Capital Payment Fund.


Christ the Word Catholic School

Project overview: The project completed in the summer of 2020 provided a new 3-16 school building to replace the old Ysgol Mair and Blessed Edward Jones Catholic High Schools. The new building was completed in September 2019 before the two old schools were demolished and landscaped to create play areas for the new school during 2020.

Funding: £23,000,000 - Welsh Government 21st Century Schools Programme and Denbighshire County Council.


40 Brighton Road

Project overview: Conversion of HMO to apartments.

Funding: £260,000 – Denbighshire County Council Housing Revenue Account and Welsh Government Affordable Housing Grant.


Former Victorian Post Office Building

Project overview: Purchase of the former Victorian Post Office building, to allow for redevelopment.

Funding: £110,000 - General Fund to be covered by Denbighshire County Council Housing Revenue Account.


Former Granite and Next

Project overview: Purchase of the former Granite and Next properties, as well as 4 Wellington Road, to allow for redevelopment as part of the Contemporary Living scheme.

45-47 Water Street

Project overview: Renovation to provide apartments.

1 Crescent Road

Project overview: Conversion of night shelter into apartments.
