Street naming and numbering: Requirements and guidance
We are responsible for the naming of all roads as well as the naming and numbering of all properties (residential and commercial) within Denbighshire.
Street names and addresses of properties are used by;
- Credit agencies
- Councils
- Emergency services
- Royal Mail
- Satellite navigation system suppliers
- Statutory undertakers
- Other private companies
Individuals should not allocate their own house numbers or building names.
If a property is not registered through the street naming and numbering process it will not appear on the main address database and the owner/occupier will have difficulties in obtaining mail, goods and services from a variety of sources (e.g. connecting utilities, applying for a credit card, or purchasing goods by mail order).

Display your property number or name
When we allocate your new address you are legally required to display the number (or name) so that it is visible from the street. If you do not do this, organisations have difficulty finding your property.
National Address Gazetteer
Every address and road name we create goes into our local address database, which updates the National Address database to help fire, police and other government departments work together to provide efficient services.
