The risk of HPAI virus (bird flu) increases during the winter. Find out what to do if you see dead birds, including who to contact and how to deal with them safely.

You can report any dead animals you find on the road to us.

This includes wild animals like foxes and deer, farm animals like sheep, and domestic animals like cats and dogs.

We aim to collect dead animals from the road within 3 days.

Reporting a car accident with an animal

If you hit any of the following animals, you must stop and report the accident to the police:

  • dogs
  • horses
  • cattle, e.g. cows
  • pigs
  • goats
  • sheep
  • donkeys and mules
