We provide free cycle training for children in Denbighshire schools, as part of the national Bikeability scheme.
What is Bikeability?
Bikeability has replaced the former cycling proficiency tests, and is designed to give children the skills and confidence to ride their bikes on the road.
Bikeability training is delivered by qualified instructors, and there are three levels:
- Level 1: the rider learns basic skills to control and master the bike. This is done in a traffic-free environment, usually the school playground.
- Level 2: training takes place on local roads with light traffic, so that the rider gets experience dealing with traffic on short journeys, such as cycling to school.
- Level 3: training on busier roads and more complex road layouts, so that the rider can deal with all types of road conditions and more challenging traffic situations.
How do I get involved?
Level 1 and 2 training is available to all primary schools in Denbighshire for Year 6 pupils. Level 3 training is available in some secondary schools. To find out when training sessions are scheduled, contact your child’s school.
Bikeability training is also available for adults, and there is a small charge for this. Find out about training in your area (external website).
