Got your own vessel? Perhaps it’s a sailing boat, a canoe, kayak or stand up paddle board? Maybe you have a power boat and have joined the ski club?
If so, then you probably want to get on the water, and where better to practise than at Marine Lake.
You'll need a permit if you want to use Marine Lake. If you don't have one, you can complete and return an application form for one of the following:
Day Permit
This is a permit for a vessel to use Marine Lake during a timetabled session, for one day only.
Seasonal Permits
Permit for a vessel to use Marine Lake during a timetabled session.
- Summer Permit (April to October)
- Winter Permit (November to January)
Annual Permit (Non-powered only)
Annual permits are available for a non¬powered vessels to use Marine Lake during a timetabled session, for both the summer and winter seasons.

Boat testing
If you want to test the seaworthiness of a vessel, without launching it into the sea, then you can book a 30 minute session (15 minutes launch and recovery, 15 minutes water time) for £25, but you must have public liability insurance.

Rules
There are rules depending on how you want to use the Lake.
All users will need the following to use Marine Lake:
Swimming is not permitted.
Water-skiing and Wake-boarding
Water-skiing and wake-boarding is only permitted through the Ocean Beach Water Ski Club.
Anyone interested in these activities on the lake must enquire with the club regarding becoming a member. No other power vessels are permitted to operate on the lake except Ocean Beach Water Ski Club.
The use of Personal Water Craft (Jet Ski’s) is forbidden on Marine Lake.
Non-power Sailing
Canoe, Kyak, Wind Surf and Sail boat owners are welcome to use Marine Lake. As with power vessels, a valid insurance certificate must be produced and payment made before a permit and boat sticker is issued.
There is no skiing or power activity, only sailing / non-powered from October - March. This is through discussion with the Marine Lake Users Forum, as we don’t want to disturb the wildlife that uses the island during these months.
