12 hectares in size, Marine Lake is a man-made reservoir next to the mouth of the River Clwyd.

For those who don't like to get wet, have a walk round the Lake taking in our new Environmental Trail, spot some of the wildlife, or have a ride on the Miniature Railway, the oldest in the UK and operated by Rhyl Steam Preservation Trust (external website).

Opening times

The grounds of Marine Lake are open all year, so you can take a leisurely walk round at any time, or if your bringing the kids, there are two outdoor play areas, one for the younger ones and one for those a bit older.

Marine Lake operates two timetables to accommodate different users.

Rules

There are rules depending on how you want to use the Lake.

All users will need the following to use Marine Lake:

• Insurance
• Lifejackets or buoyancy aids
• Permit (can be purchased from Rhyl Harbour Office)

Swimming is not permitted.

Water-skiing and Wake-boarding

Water-skiing and wake-boarding is only permitted through the Ocean Beach Water Ski Club.

Anyone interested in these activities on the lake must enquire with the club regarding becoming a member. No other power vessels are permitted to operate on the lake except Ocean Beach Water Ski Club.

The use of Personal Water Craft (Jet Ski’s) is forbidden on Marine Lake.

Non-power Sailing

Canoe, Kyak, Wind Surf and Sail boat owners are welcome to use Marine Lake. As with power vessels, a valid insurance certificate must be produced and payment made before a permit and boat sticker is issued.

There is no skiing or power activity, only sailing / non-powered from October - March. This is through discussion with the Marine Lake Users Forum, as we don’t want to disturb the wildlife that uses the island during these months.
