Short breaks for disabled children
A short break could be anything from a few hours to a week or two at a time. Whatever the period, it gives you and your carers a break from the usual routine. It is a time when both you and your family or carers can do some different activities, get a change of surroundings, and perhaps make some new friends.
Types of short breaks
Short breaks for disabled children include play schemes and holiday clubs.
How do I request a short break?
A short break can be requested by a child or young person, their family, or a professional such as a doctor.
When you apply, we will carry out an assessment. This is an informal conversation with a social worker to establish what your needs are, and to make sure that you are eligible for a short break.
If you would like to apply for a short break, contact us online.
How much does it cost?
We do not charge for services to children receiving care and support, or for support provided to a child who is a carer.
If you receive direct payments, you can use them to pay for a short break.
