What goes in compost bins?
- vegetable and fruit peelings
- tea leaves, coffee grounds and crushed egg shells
- weeds
- hair
- paper
- animal manure
- evergreen clippings
- leaves
- prunings
- vacuum dust
- straw and hay
- grass cuttings
The following items do not compost well and/or can be harmful to the composting process:
- body fluids
- disposable nappies
- used paper handkerchiefs
- excrement - human/cat/dog
- brightly coloured or shiny card or paper
- stones
- glass
- metal
- plastic
- cleaning fluids and other household/garden chemicals
- meat
- diseased plants
